Special abrasives

The abrasives in this range work less aggressively than other abrasives, making them ideal for more delicate facade cleaning, blast cleaning of wood and other more delicate surfaces, including stainless steel and aluminium.

These abrasives do not damage the blast cleaned surface.

We have several special abrasives in our product range, including Vasilfine micro-coalslag grit, Eurocal calcium carbonate, softblast (ground walnuts), sodium bicarbonate (Armex) and fine grades of Bekagrit (BG250) and Scorex® (SC250).

AbraVer Glass beads

AbraVer® is a non-metallic mineral abrasive, made of soda glass.

AbraVer® is used for shot blast-cleaning, descaling and deburring. They are also suitable for inspection blasting (fraction and fracture detection) and for glare free, decorative matt satin finishing. Another application is micro peening. When using glass beads, there is no abrading or scouring action, no deformation of material and no contamination or embedment of particles. Glass beads are suitable for dry compressed air blasting as well as for wet blast cleaning.

Doloblast/Microdol Dolomite

Doloblast/Microdol is a natural calcium/magnesium carbonate-based micro abrasive used frequently for wet blasting. It is particularly suitable for the restoration of monuments and statues, façade cleaning, and the removal of dirt, paint and graffiti. Doloblast/Microdol contains no heavy metals, free crystalline silica or corrosive salts and will not cause efflorescence. Due to its low hardness, Doloblast/Microdol does not damage the blasted surface, instead acting more as a cleaning agent. It can therefore be used to blast clean glass and there is no need to tape off hard metals or hard types of paint (provided they are not oxidised or weathered). Aluminium, copper, zinc and thin layers of paint (latex, synthetic materials) will still need protection.

It is very suitable for restoration of monuments and statues, facade cleaning, and removal of dirt, paint and graffiti. It does not contain heavy metals or free crystalline silica and therefore harmless to health and environment.

Due to the low hardness of the material, Doloblast/Microdol does not damage the blasted surface.

Armex

Armex® Maintenance and Armex® Maintenance XL are a formulated Sodium Bicarbonate, a completely harmless and environmentally friendly product. It is water-soluble, odourless and slightly alkaline (pH-value of 8.2).

ARMEX® sodium bicarbonate blast media. Ideal for industrial cleaning in food processing, pulp and paper, automotive and other industries. Suited for architectural cleaning, whether stripping a single layer or multiple. Extremely effective, one-step cleaning and deodorizing after fire and smoke damage or for mould remediation. It does no mechanical damage to the surface (no etching).

Durcal

Durcal calcium carbonate is an abrasive with a very low hardness.

It is suitable for façade cleaning of buildings and monuments and may be used in dry as well as wet blast cleaning systems. Calcium carbonate does not damage the surface being cleaned. Suitable for dry, moist and wet blast applications.

Durcal calcium carbonate is very suitable for cleaning of: marble, sand stone, natural stone, wood, graffiti removal.

Eurocal

Eurocal calcium carbonate is an abrasive with a very low hardness.

It is suitable for façade cleaning of buildings and monuments and may be used in dry as well as wet blast cleaning systems. Calcium carbonate does not damage the surface being cleaned. Suitable for dry, moist and wet blast applications.

Eurocal calcium carbonate is very suitable for cleaning of: marble, sand stone, natural stone, wood, graffiti removal.

Vasilfine

Vasilfine is a fine aluminium silicate (micro coal slag) abrasive suitable for dry, wet, damp and slurry blast cleaning and for special blast cleaning systems such as Torbo, IBIX etc.

Vasilfine is ideal for:

  • steel or other metal surfaces that require a low to very low surface roughness
  • stone or concrete surfaces that need to be cleaned with minimal potential damage
  • wooden surfaces, such as furniture
  • one or more layers of a coating system (selective blast cleaning)

Vasilfine is inert, very securely graded and contains less than 1% free crystalline silica.

Softblast

Softblast is made of a blend of crushed nutshells, seed stones and fruit pits (i.e. from cherries, apricots, etc.). The particles are durable and can be re-used several times. Softblast can be used successfully in cleaning operations where abrading of the surface must be avoided. Softblast will not mar the original finish or crystalline base of the treated surface. Softblast is a non-abrasive material. It cannot damage, etch or mar metal. No masking of precision machined parts or threads are required. It can be used in conjunction with standard blast cleaning equipment. It is safe, non-hazardous, non-toxic and it contains no free silica.

Removal of hard carbon deposits from engine parts in aircraft, automotive and other industries. Cleaning of moulds in rubber industry.
Removal of rust and scale from meters and brass valves.
Removal of paint from metallic and glass surfaces.
Cleaning of clogged and blinded wire screens. Cleaning of plaster moulds.
Removal of flash from metal inserts in moulded plastic parts.
