We offer a range of high-performance blast cleaning abrasives for the surface preparation and pre-treatment of dams, bridges, viaducts and locks.

Bekagrit iron silicate (copper slag grit) is ideal for the effective removal of mill scale, rust, paint and dirt. Environmentally friendly and free from quartz, Bekagrit enables you to achieve cleanliness grades SA-3, SA-2½, SA-2 and SA-1.

Surface preparation is vital when surfaces are to be protected by a film-forming material such as paint. Good surface preparation extends the lifetime of the paint, meaning less maintenance and therefore lower costs. Dams, bridges and locks often suffer heavy corrosion. That’s why high-quality corrosion protection – in combination with proper surface preparation of the steel – is so important.

Major projects our abrasives have supported include the John Frost Bridge near Arnhem (better known as "The Bridge Too Far"), the locks at IJmuiden, and the Oosterscheldekering and Maeslantkering storm surge barriers.

NAstra

NAstra® is an iron silicate (copper slag) abrasive. NAstra® is produced in accordance with DIN EN ISO 11126-3. It is a perfect blasting grit for blast cleaning steel, stone and concrete, and for the removal of mill scale, rust, old paint and dirt.

During melting of copper ore concentrates an iron silicate is formed. This is passing a groove and is granulated at a temperature of approximately 1250 °C, using a temperature-controlled pressurized water jet. After cooling down in a tank with fresh water, the fine particles are separated from the granulate manufactured in this way. It is a vitreous amorphous slag, it does not absorb water. During the manufacturing of the abrasive no crushing or grinding procedures are included. Therefore, the single abrasive particle is not broken up and retains its extreme hardness and tenacity which is the case for all particle sizes.

NAstra® used as blast cleaning abrasive for all application fields in conventional corrosion protection on almost all surfaces. It is suitable for surface preparation standards SA-3, SA-2½, SA-2 and SA-1. It is a non-hazardous material, containing less than 0,1% free crystalline silica.

Bekagrit

Bekagrit is an iron silicate blast cleaning grit made of granulated slag from metal melting processes (also called copper slag). Bekagrit is designed for blast cleaning of steel and stone/concrete surfaces, removal of mill scale, rust, old paint, dirt etc. Suitable for SA-3, SA-2½ and SA-2, as well as SA-1, also called sweep blasting.

Bekagrit is accurately processed and sized and complies with ISO standards 11126-3 and 11127. It contains less than 1% free crystalline silica.

Scorex

Scorex® is a blast cleaning grit made of iron furnace slag, also called calcium silicate. Scorex® is designed for blast cleaning of steel and stone/concrete surfaces, removal of mill scale, rust, old paint, dirt etc. Suitable for SA-3, SA-2½ and SA-2, as well as SA-1, also called sweep blasting. Very suitable for the cleaning of stone and concrete (facade cleaning). It has a very low heavy metal content and a nice natural colour.

Scorex® is accurately processed and sized and fully complies with ISO standards 11126-6 and 11127. It contains less than 1% free crystalline silica.

ScorexPlus

ScorexPlus is a blast cleaning grit made of a carefully constructed blend of high quality iron furnace slag and recycled sodium silicate glass. ScorexPlus is designed for blast cleaning of steel and stone/concrete surfaces, removal of mill scale, rust, old paint, dirt etc. Suitable for SA-3, SA-2½ and SA-2, as well as SA-1, also called sweep blasting and is also very suitable for stainless steel and aluminium as well as for different kinds of wood.

ScorexPlus is accurately processed and sized and fully complies with ISO standards 11126-6 and 11127. It contains less than 1% free crystalline silica.

OK-grit

OK-grit is a granulated iron silicate. It is an iron silicate blast cleaning abrasive made with nickelslag from the Boliden Harjavalta nickel smelter in Finland where it is pre-screened. At Sibelco Nordic’s Nakkila plant the raw material is dried, screened into different grain sizes and the dust is removed. OK-Grit is suitable for a wide range of blasting applications and also as a high-quality granule for the roofing industry. The material is produced in accordance with ISO 11126-5 and 11127.

It is used as blast cleaning abrasive for all application fields in conventional corrosion protection on almost all surfaces. Suitable for SA-3, SA-2½, SA-2 and SA-1.

Very suitable for use as roofing granules, as it is weather resistant and has uniform colour and grain size.

Fajalit

Fajalitis a granulated iron silicate material extracted at Boliden’s Rönnskär copper production facility in Sweden through a unique process called ‘fuming’ whereby the silicate is exposed to high temperatures, resulting in a very pure product. After drying, the material is then sieved to an optimum particle size for blasting. Fajalit can be used on most surfaces and is produced in accordance with ISO 11126-3.

It is used as blast cleaning abrasive for all application fields in conventional corrosion protection on almost all surfaces. Suitable for SA-3, SA-2½, SA-2 and SA-1.

Very suitable for use as roofing granules, as it is weather resistant and has uniform colour and grain size.

Vasilgrit

Vasilgrit® is an aluminium silicate blast cleaning abrasive made of coal slag from coal fired power stations. Vasilgrit® is designed for blast cleaning of steel and stone/concrete surfaces, removal of mill scale, rust, old paint, dirt etc. Suitable for SA-3, SA-2½ and SA-2, as well as SA-1, also called sweep blasting.

Vasilgrit® is a by-product of coal fired power plants and is an inert, natural abrasive that contains less than 0.1% free crystalline silica. Vasilgrit® is very accurately processed and sized and fully complies with ISO standards 11126-4 and 11127.

AbraCut

AbraCut® is made of garnet, a naturally occurring mineral that is non- toxic, chemically inert and contains no free quartz. It is perfect for blast cleaning stone, concrete and steel, and for the removal of mill scale, rust, old paint and dirt.

Abracut® is suitable for surface preparation standards SA-3, SA-2½, SA-2 and SA-1 (sweep blasting). It is also used in blast rooms, cabinets and for wet / damp blasting systems. Abracut® is suitable for blasting thermally-treated/galvanised materials and for façade cleaning. It can also be used to clean concrete. Furthermore it is widely used for high pressure waterjet cutting as well as for water filtration.

Minersiv

Minersiv® is a garnet abrasive specially developed as a high-pressure waterjet cutting media. Minersiv® garnet is re-dried and re-screened at our Hamburg facility to obtain optimal grain size distribution and moisture content and to guard against possible contaminants.

Minersiv® garnet is available in #80 and #120 mesh.

Aluminium oxide brown

Aluminium Oxide ELK / NK is an electro-fused aluminium oxide with very hard and tough grains.

Brown Fused Aluminium Oxide can be used for compressed air blast cleaning in blast rooms, cabinets etc. Excellent for recycling.

Aluminium oxide white

Aluminium Oxide ELK / E is an electro-fused aluminium oxide with very hard and tough grains. Compressed air blastcleaning in shotblast rooms, cabinets etc. Excellent for recycling.

Chilled Iron grit

Chilled iron grit is produced from carefully selected alloy free iron scrap that is recarbonised in a hot blast cupola. The shot obtained by this process, is then crushed into grit particles.

Chilled iron grit is suitable for compressed air blasting in shot-blast rooms with proper recycling and dust-extraction equipment.

Steel grit

Steel abrasives are produced with super eutectoid medium alloy steel. The percentage of Sulphur, phosphorus and chromium content is low. Abrasives are heat treated, applying the most modern procedure. The micro structure of high-carbon heat treated steel abrasives is a fine and homogeneous martensite.

Steel grit is suitable for compressed air blasting in enclosed recycling systems, such as shotblast rooms, cabinets etc.

Steel shot

Steel abrasives are produced with super eutectoid medium alloy steel. The percentage of sulphur, phosphorus and chromium content is low. Abrasives are heat treated, applying the most modern procedure. The micro structure of steel high-carbon heat treated abrasives is a fine and homogeneous martensite.

Steel shot is suitable for use in impeller-type wheel-machines as well as for compressed-air blasting in enclosed recycling systems, such as shotblast rooms, cabinets etc.

Steel abrasives are produced with super eutectoid medium alloy steel. The percentage of sulphur, phosphorus and chromium content is low. Abrasives are heat treated, applying the most modern procedure. The micro structure of steel high-carbon heat treated abrasives is a fine and homogeneous martensite.

Sinter grit

Sintergrit is composed of specially selected minerals, and sintered at a high temperature. Sintergrit is produced by crushing sintershot, thus having the same chemical properties. Sintergrit is a hard and tough material with a high density and very good recycling properties. It contains no free iron and does not react with water.

Blastcleaning of steel/concrete/stone surfaces. It is suitable for pressure and vacuum blasting. It gives a uniform and clean surface and is highly suitable for removal of rust, paint and mill-scale from metal surfaces, as well as for stone cutting. The material can be recycled for a numerous times and is suitable for stainless steel and aluminium surfaces. Highly efficient in blast cabinets.

AbraVer Glass beads

AbraVer® is a non-metallic mineral abrasive, made of soda glass.

AbraVer® is used for shot blast-cleaning, descaling and deburring. They are also suitable for inspection blasting (fraction and fracture detection) and for glare free, decorative matt satin finishing. Another application is micro peening. When using glass beads, there is no abrading or scouring action, no deformation of material and no contamination or embedment of particles. Glass beads are suitable for dry compressed air blasting as well as for wet blast cleaning.

Armex

Armex® Maintenance and Armex® Maintenance XL are a formulated Sodium Bicarbonate, a completely harmless and environmentally friendly product. It is water-soluble, odourless and slightly alkaline (pH-value of 8.2).

ARMEX® sodium bicarbonate blast media. Ideal for industrial cleaning in food processing, pulp and paper, automotive and other industries. Suited for architectural cleaning, whether stripping a single layer or multiple. Extremely effective, one-step cleaning and deodorizing after fire and smoke damage or for mould remediation. It does no mechanical damage to the surface (no etching).
